Solid Gold - The karat is a very old measure of how much Gold is in an alloy, (or Gold-blend) A measure of 1 karat is when there is 1 part pure gold to 23 parts of metal alloy -or 4% Gold. So 24K Gold is 100% pure Gold. 9K is 37%, 14K is 58%, 18K is 75%. The higher the karat, the softer the metal. Pure Gold is very soft not practical for purposes like jewelry. Alloys are mixed to give the metal variations of color and strength. Rose gold is made with copper, and white gold is made with nickel. Gold’s energy is best represented by the Sun God Ra. It is associated with Royalty, male energy and the Sun. It stimulates passion, creativity and sexuality. Stimulates confidence and one’s will to grow and stretch beyond one’s current experiences.
14K Gold Fill - (Also known as Rolled Gold) These items are not actually filled with Gold. The are made with a strong base metal core (such as brass or copper) and then covered by sheets of solid 14K Gold in a mechanical bonding process. This process effectively creates a thick and durable coat of Gold rolled around the outside of the metal. The Gold content is 5% or 1/20 of the total weight of the piece and very durable. You get the strength of the Brass with the purity & shine of Gold at a fraction of the cost of solid gold. Because the Gold is permanently bonded to the Brass, the jewelry is expected to last far longer, if not forever, without chipping or wearing away. Gold fill jewelry reacts with chlorine. Never take your Gold jewelry into a pool or spa. (Ex: Much of our street collection is made with Gold Fill)

Gold-Plating is less expensive than gold filled, but is less durable as well. Because of it’s lack of durability, we don’t carry many items that have been processed this way. Gold jewelry reacts with chlorine never take your gold jewelry into a pool or a spa. Showering, swimming or using lotions or body oils with this jewelry on is not recommended. Also some people can have allergic reactions to Gold-Plating.
Gold Vermeil - is Sterling Silver that has been Gold-Plated with a thin layer of 14K or 18K Gold. The quality of vermeil is higher than Gold-Plating since the base metal is Sterling Silver. The coating is usually thicker and plated with higher karat content. If you have sensitive skin, this can be easier on those with allergies, however it is still vulnerable to wear and chipping and is not water resistant or recommended for use with lotions, body oils.
